[The Glory of the Racing Mini Returns]

Introduced in 1959, the Morris Mini Minor adopted a groundbreaking front-wheel-drive layout, achieving a spacious interior despite its small body. It quickly became a best-selling car in Britain. Among them, the "Mini Cooper" was a sports model equipped with a particularly high-performance engine. This model, created with the cooperation of then-F1 constructor John Cooper, increased the displacement of its inline four-cylinder engine from 848cc to 1275cc, and, equipped with twin carburetors, produced 75 horsepower and a top speed of 155 km/h. In addition to the increased horsepower, the front brakes were changed from drum to disc, and the suspension was also revised, among other features, strengthening various parts. The Cooper was a great success on the racetracks of the 1960s, taking advantage of its nimble handling. It won numerous races, including the British Saloon Car Championship and the European Touring Car Championship, demonstrating its high performance.
